September 2019-
In the fall, the pawrents and I took a trip to a little island called Mackinac. It was truly one of my favorite trips. Check out all the fun we had below!
If you want to explore all that this island has to offer, you have to travel by ferry. The unique thing about Mackinac Island is that no motor vehicles are allowed on the island at any time. Horse carriages, bicycles, and your feet are the only modes of transportation used. However, if you aren’t a huge fan of ferry rides, don't worry as the ride is only 20 minutes long and it’s a very scenic ride!
Bonus: Dog’s ride for free!
For ticket information, you can visit the Shepler’s ferry website: https://www.sheplersferry.com/
There are a couple of ferry ride services you can take, but we really enjoyed Sheplers.
PLENTY OF SPACE
If you’re worried there isn’t enough seating for us 4 legged ones, then guess again. I had a lot of room on the ground between my pawrents to sprawl out and relax during the 20-minute ferry ride.
FAMILY PICTURE
Before stepping off the boat to go home for the day, we obviously had to take a family picture.
PRETTY VIEWS
Mom let me sit on her lap for part of the ride so I could take in all the views and feel the wind in my fur.
MADE IT
Once docked, you get to explore all the cool things that this island has to offer. The entire island is one giant 8-mile loop. We didn’t quite go that far but we did do a lot of walking. Extra bonus: after your walk around the island, you and your hoomans can enjoy some refreshing beverages at one of the many outdoor patios.
GORGEOUS VIEWS
Always look both ways before crossing the street! Just look at the beautiful Lake Michigan. Who wouldn’t want to visit this island with views like this?
HORSES EVERYWHERE
As I mentioned earlier, the only type of transportation available on the island is by foot, bike, or horse buggy. While I didn’t get the chance to ride in the buggy, the good news is you dogs can if they want to! Small dogs ride for free and larger dogs can ride for a children’s rate.
